Pobble 365

This term on Wednesdays we have been using Pobble 365 as a motivation for writing. I chose this visual because I like vehicles and planes. Underneath is my story. If you want to try Pobble 365, click here

Pobble 365 is a writing website where you can choose a picture and with each picture, they have included:
"Sick" sentences that you need to fix the spelling and punctuation.
Story starters to help you start your story.
Question Time is where you can answer questions about the picture.
Perfect Picture is where they suggest a way of drawing a picture.

“There is no better feeling in the world than being up here,” the pilot thought to himself. He pressed a series of buttons, ensuring the aircraft was on the right course, and sat back in his seat to enjoy the view. The sight that met his eyes never ceased to amaze him, no matter how many times he had done this flight…
The pilot had just relaxed when the plane's switchboard started beeping. The pilot started flicking switches frantically but the beeping was getting louder and louder. He heard knocking on the door, it was the air hostess.
She said, “All the passengers have their air masks on!” The pilot was really surprised.
“Why is everything beeping?” asked the air hostess.
”I don’t know” replied the pilot.
Look!” shrieked the air hostess as she pointed to the altitude dial which was saying 2 500 feet instead of
39 000 feet.
What are we going to do?” yelled the pilot as she discovered she was staring at the radar. She yelled, “We are going to crash!”
We'll be fine, I'll just go left,” said the pilot.
BOOM! “The right wing must have hit something,” said the pilot as he tried to put the plane on to the ground…
Then there was was another big boom as they hit the ground, luckily the pilot had left the wheels down all flight. The pilot screamed that he had landed on a cruise ship. Then the cruise ship started swaying.
“We need to take off,” said the air hostess.
"We can't!" said the pilot. "We're out of fuel."

Maths problem solving -multiplication

This term for maths Room 19 has been doing Multiplication here is one of my problems.

The 55 children who attended Wainui Camp paid $125.00 each. How much money did Wendy have to pay Wainui Camp.

I used the place value strategy:
55 x 125 = ?
55 x 100 5500
55 x 20 1100
55 x 5 275
5500 + 1100 ➝ 6600 + 275 = 6875
I also used rounding and compensation:
55 x 150
I know, 55 x 100 5500
55 x 50 2750
5500 + 2750 = 8250
8250 - 1375 = 6875

Noun Poem - Quad Bikes

Quad bikes
Quad bikes
Quad bikes

Old quad bikes,
Yellow quad bikes,
Big old rusty quad bikes,
Bright red racing quad bikes.
Those are just a few.

Dirty quad bikes,
Farming quad bikes,
Special weed-spraying quad bikes,
Big new shiny quad bikes,
John Deere quad bikes too.

Fishing quad bikes,
Hunting quad bikes,
Don’t forget 4 wheel drive quad bikes,
Last of all, best of all
I like my uncle’s quad bikes!!
