Maths Problem Solving - Division,

This term Room 19 has been doing Multiplication and Division for maths. Recently we have started to do Division. Here is a problem I have solved for home learning.

Miss Turner organised three classes (64kids) and started organising them into rows for assembly.  She was trying to make it work for 4 rows – How many kids were in each row?

I used reversibility as my strategy
64 ÷ 4 = 16
4 x 16 = 64
Here is how I worked it out.
4 x 10 = 40
4 x 5 = 20
4 x 1 = 4

I also used place value as a strategy
64 ÷ 4 = 16
40 ÷ 4 = 10
20 ÷ 4 = 5
4 ÷ 4 = 1
10 + 5 + 1 = 16
